A Year in Review
We celebrated this new beginning with a New Year Kickoff Reception in January. Guest speakers Bill Weld ('70; former Governor of Massachusetts) and Scott Harshbarger ('68; former Massachusetts Attorney General) discussed the 2016 election and potential effects on the Supreme Court. Over a hundred local alumni attended this event.
In May, we hosted a cocktail reception with Juliette Kayyem ('95), former Assistant Secretary at the Department of Homeland Security, who discussed her career managing the nation's disasters. That month, we also welcomed Douglas Brooks ('97), Quentin Palfrey ('02), Lori Silver ('97), and Jane Willis ('94) as panelists to a lunchtime discussion about diverse career paths in the law.
During the summer, we introduced HLS students in the Boston area to alumni mentors. Thirty-five people participated in this program, in which alumni and students who shared professional interests met for lunch. We look forward to welcoming the participating students to our alumni community in the coming years.
Throughout the year, we have also arranged informal events for local alumni, including several happy hours and a day of service at Franklin Park. We ended our programming year with a final happy hour in mid-November, when we gathered to discuss the election results.
We are excited to build on these experiences in 2017, and we hope to see you at our events throughout the year. If you are interested in joining the Board, or would simply like to offer suggestions, please email Barry White (firstname.lastname@example.org) -- we look forward to hearing from you!
